I love to eat bad girls for dinner

Marla was laying in her bed, she had her covers up past her head and a
small knife under her pillow. She was trying all her might to stay
awake but she could feel her eyelids drooping fast.
“I love to eat bad girls for dinner.”
That was what the thing told her. She didn’t exactly know what the
thing was , all she knew was  that it had great big yellow eyes and it
hid down in the old well at the edge of the backyard.
She tried to tell her babysitter about the thing but she just told her
she was being stupid and to go to bed.
“Marla you are too old to be having imaginary friends, you’ll be 10
next week it’s time to grow up. Now go to bed I’m tired of looking at
you!”

So that is what she did, she went upstairs to her bed, but not before
she snuck into the kitchen and got the knife to put under her pillow
just in case.
It was eleven o clock and she knew her parents wouldn’t be back until
the afternoon, she got up out the bed and  crept down the stairs , she
could see her babysitter on the couch. It looked like she was
sleeping, so Marla crept to the sliding door windows at the back of
the house.  She was thinking about going out there, but decided
against and was about to turn around when she felt a hand on her
shoulder.

“I thought I told you, you little brat to get upstairs and stay upstairs!”
“But there is a monster out there, he said he was gonna get me!”
“There is no such thing as monsters, you know what come on we’re going
out there.”
“No please don’t make me go!”
Marla was no match for the babysitter as she dragged her out of the
house, out into  the back yard and  over to the well.
“Hello are there any monsters down there?”
Marla held her breath waiting; she was sure that a monster would come
up and drag the both of them down into the well.
After a few minutes, nothing happened and the babysitter gave Marla a
smug smile and started to walk back towards the house, Marla ran after
her and the babysitter locked the door behind them.
“Now if you don’t get into bed right now, I’m gonna take off my belt
and beat the shit out of you.”
Marla ran up the stairs and jumped into bed. She had to admit she felt
better, maybe she had imagined the voice and the eyes. This time she
welcomed sleep, and before she knew it she drifted into a heavy
peaceful sleep.

Sitting back down on the couch the babysitter was about to go back to
sleep when she heard a noise. It sounded like something scraping
against the linoleum kitchen floor.  Damn it if that stupid kid is up
again she is gonna—She never got to finish her thought. There standing
in the kitchen was some…some thing. It was like a mix between a human
, a grizzly bear, and a tarantula with big yellow eyes.
The babysitter wouldn’t to scream for help, but she was in too much
shock, as her bladder let loose she heard the creature say: “I love to
eat bad girls for dinner.”
And then it was over.   ©2012 Goldie

Confessions

She caresses a new lover's cheek
With a hand that used to be mine
Back during a more innocent time
Before confessions and secrets sent her adrift
Like a wayward leaf
Brown like her eyes that are no longer willing to meet mine
We can never be the same
And I only have myself to blame
And I only have myself to blame.
